Rayadurg, Andhra Pradesh: A day after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) moved to freeze accounts of his companies, YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy today hit out at the Opposition, saying that the move was an attempt to politically stifle him ahead of the by-elections in the state. He also questioned the CBI’s action against his companies.
The investigating agency had, on Tuesday, written to the State Bank of India and the Oriental Bank of Commerce in Hyderabad, directing it to freeze the accounts of three large parts of Jagan’s considerable empire – Jagathi Publications, Indira TV and Janani Infrastructure – pending an inquiry by it. It believes that Jagan, one of India’s richest politicians with declared assets worth 365 crores, benefited from his father’s position as chief minister. YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who died while in office in 2009, allegedly asked companies to invest in Jagan’s firms and in return, they were granted licences or other clearances.
“Does the CBI intend to close Sakshi? Why should they freeze accounts?” Jagan asked while speaking to NDTV. “The investors in Sakshi are much bigger companies and they cannot be called my benamis. They can buy me out,” said the 39-year-old MP from Kadapa, adding, “I do believe in God and I think Sakshi will go on.” He also said that he would move court against the CBI’s move.
The YSR Congress chief also slammed the ruling Congress and the Telugu Desam Party, who he alleged had aligned against him. “All of you have joined hands and conspired together just because you are not able to face the political challenge from one person,” said Jagan, who is campaigning in Rayadurg in the Anantpur district, ahead of by-elections next month.
Jagan’s supporters too have been crying foul over the freezing of accounts, alleging that the move is politically motivated.
“The probe is court-ordered but not court-monitored. It is PMO-monitored with all the attendant pulls and pressures. They are political because they are peeved with Jagan for taking away a large chunk of Congress vote,” B Somayajulu, Spokesperson of YSR Congress said.
The move by the CBI on Tuesday came barely 24 hours after summons were issued to Jagan and 12 others – all named as accused in CBI’s chargesheet – to appear before a Special CBI Court on May 28. The Andhra Pradesh High Court had, in August last year, directed the CBI to register a case against Jagan and thoroughly inquire into his alleged financial misdeeds. The investigating agency has also booked 73 companies and individuals, alongwith Jagan, on the directions of the High Court.
The agency is probing 26 government orders (GOs) that were issued by six ministers, all from the Congress, and eight bureaucrats from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) during the YSR regime in 2009. The GOs pertain to 26 deals struck between the Andhra Pradesh government and various companies that the 14 people were allegedly responsible for.
“The political catch-22 situation for the Congress is they have to say YSR was honest but want to prove Jaganmohan Reddy was dishonest. They want to say all those who issued those 26 government orders are absolutely clean and correct but the alleged beneficiaries of the GOs have to be proved to be guilty,” said K Nageswar, political analyst.
The developments could have significant political ramifications as Andhra Pradesh gears up for byelections to 18 assembly and one Lok Sabha seat in June. Analysts say that Jagan’s party, the YSR Congress, appears to have a definite edge that has made, both the Congress and the TDP, nervous.
Hence, the clampdown on the finances on the media houses owned by Jagan is significant. The growing popularity and clout of Jagan, in the last one year, has been attributed, in a large measure, to Sakshi TV and channel. The smooth running of both media houses would now crucially depend on whether Jagan possesses enough liquid cash and whether it can find investors who would be willing to pump in money into his company.

HYDERABAD: A day after their bank accounts were frozen on CBI direction, Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s three companies, including Sakshi TV, moved court seeking defreezing of their accounts to carry out day-to-day business even as the agency’s move drew flak from scribes.
In three separate petitions filed in the special CBI court here, representatives of Indira Television Ltd, which runs Telugu news channel Sakshi TV, Jagati Publications Ltd, publisher of `Sakshi’ Telugu newspaper and Janani Infrastructure Pvt Ltd alleged that the the action by CBI was aimed at muzzling the voice of print and electronic media and to cause political advantage to the rivals of Jagan.
The CBI, investigating into alleged disproportionate assets of the YSR Congress chief, has filed three chargesheets in the case and yesterday approached banks for freezing the accounts of the three companies, including the two media entities.
Following the development, amounts to tune of Rs 2.85 crore in current accounts maintained by the firms in different banks here besides fixed deposit of Rs 103 crore stood frozen.
In the thick of campaigning for June 12 by-elections, the Jagan issue has generated a lot of heat in the political circles in Andhra Pradesh with the ruling Congress seeking to wash its hands off.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said neither the Congress nor the state government have any connection with the CBI inquiry against Jaganmohan.
Jagan’s YSR Congress dubbed the freezing of bank accounts of Sakshi media house as a “move to gag the freedom of press” and “part of a larger conspiracy to close down the newspaper and television by vested interests and competitors.”
Sakshi management has moved the AP Human Rights Commission against the CBI action, saying the livelihood of 20,000 employees was pushed into jeopardy.
Journalists took to streets in different parts of Andhra Pradesh protesting the CBI action of freezing bank acccounts of media groups.
The Indian Newspaper Society strongly condemned the freezing of bank accounts of Sakshi Group and claimed this will scuttle the process of opinion building in the build-up to bypolls in Andhra Pradesh.

HYDERABAD: A majority of the campaign managers of the Congress seem to be veering round to the view that the party should attack the “criminal nature of YSR Congress Party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’’ more than his corruption if it is to reap a good harvest of votes in the byelections on June 12.
In the absence of any clear instructions on which aspect of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s public life should be attacked, each leader is talking in terms he thinks fit to diminish the popularity of the Kadapa MP.
Ever since Jagan Mohan Reddy had left the Congress in 2010 and floated his own outfit ahead of the byelections in Kadapa in May 2011,
Congress leaders had been maintaining stoic silence on YSR’s scion.
This led to thinking that many of them were not ready to burn their oars by targeting Jagan Mohan Reddy and lose an opportunity to be on his side if he emerged as an alternative to the Congress. Only the likes of Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao were harsh on him. When Jagan Mohan Reddy’s “connection” with Mangali Krishna, an accused in the case of attempt on the life of TDP leader Paritala Ravindra in 2001, became known, Hanumantha Rao was the fisrt to pounce on Jagan saying that if such leaders were elected, there would only be more bloodshed and gore.
The latest thinking in the Congress is that this line of attack on Jagan Mohan Reddy might yield result because people would not like to support a leader who has a criminal background. “People have reconciled to the fact that leaders of all political parties are corrupt. If you can establish the “criminal” past of Jagan Mohan Reddy, it might jell with people,” one senior leader from Kadapa said.
According to him, there has not been unanimity on what should be said about Jagan Mohan Reddy, Some leaders attack Jagan Mohan Reddy and his father, some attack only Jagan and keep silent on YSR and some attack the Kadapa MP but express their high regard for his father. “This is leading to a situation where we are at a loss to assess how people are receiving us,” he said.
He is of the view that if one harps on Jagan’s corruption, it may be counterproductive since it will bring the late YSR into the picture. “When you attack Jagan, by implication you are saying that YSR too was corrupt. People are not ready yet to relish if one talks ill of YSR. It is better to go slow on corruption and concentrate on exposing the “criminal nature” of Jagan Mohan Reddy,’’ he said

Even though the account freezing act that CBI has carried is condemnable, it somehow attests to the fact that political opponents have lost one of thier weapons already before the big fight (general elections). I’m sure that CBI and others would have deliberated before proceeding with the freeze. I’m confident that such freeze will not hold the court of law unless the charges are proven to be true, in which case the accused will be convicted. As the proceedings have not been started at all, how could any reasonable court upload account freeze that endangers the lives of several people.

Today is a black day, worse than the Emergency in India. They have made a mockery of democracy. Going purely by allegations, the CBI has frozen the bank accounts of Sakshi newspaper and TV channel. A newspaper that is number 8 in the country, with a circulation of 14.5 lakh according to ABC figures.
I want to ask if Sakshi has no valuation at all. Who gave them the right to question the valuation of Sakshi? You did not question Eenadu’s valuation. Did the court find anything wrong with Sakshi or say anything adverse about Sakshi’s investments that you took this step? No one has the right to malign someone’s reputation like this.
This is a plot hatched together by the Congress and the Telugu Desam to eliminate the competition. I want to ask why isn’t the CBI which is also probing the EMAAR case, interrogating Chandrababu Naidu. After the land which cost 4 crore rupees an acre was allotted by Naidu for 29 lakh rupees an acre, setting aside all rules. Now the CBI questions Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s decision to allot idle land in the backward districts of Medak and Mahbubnagar to Hetero Drugs and Aurobindo Pharma, without realising the allotment of land was made on condition that employment would be created.
Today, on similar lines, governments of Tamilnadu and Gujarat are giving land free of cost to attract investment. Yet the CBI points fingers at a dead man, who is not around to defend himself. Whatever the plan may be, God is there.
There will obviously be an impact on the working on the Sakshi newspaper and the channel, though not immediately. We cannot pay salaries if our bank accounts are frozen. We need the support of well-meaning media houses and mediapersons and we will try and garner as much support as we can.
Every employee of Sakshi understands what is going on. We are a family and we will fight it together. All my investment is in the paper and for those who claim I gained from it, I want to tell them that I do not even draw a salary from Sakshi.

What Yellow Media predicted for the past few weeks have been proved right, our leader, YS Jaganmohan Reddy has been summoned by CBI to appear in the court and froze the bank accounts of Sakshi.
I understand if the CBI would give notice first and then seize the accounts after getting dissatisified with the plaintiff’s explanations.
The CPI, CPM, Loksatta that cried foul when Margadarsi was served notices by YSR government saying that it was an attack on freedom of press, don’t even say a word on attack on Sakshi is testament to their real intentions then and now!
Congress High Command led by Sonia Gandhi, in collusion with Chandra Babu, Ambani brothers, and Ramoji Rao. This is an attempt to crush YS Jagan politically and tarnish the legend of YSR.
The investigative agencies like CBI, ED, in collusion with the judiciary have become part and parcel of the whole episode. This has, in essence pushed the democracy off the cliff. The society and people have to understand that we have a reached a point of no return.
The democratic values got so devalued in the state after the death of YSR that both Congress party and TDP have colluded shamelessly in destroying the credibility of the independent agencies and the honor of the judiciary. What used to be foul plays in the background before have now become shamelessly open! How else can we explain Jagan, who never was part of any government gets arrested by CBI in misuse of power, while Chandra Babu, who was wielding power while presiding over many, many scandals would get scot free?
Where are they (Congress/TDP) taking our country, our democracy, and our people to? Don’t they fear the country and its people? A two page letter by a self proclaimed mad dog (Sankar Rao) at the behest of Sonia Gandhi (he admitted categorically) prompted a judge Kakru to order full blown CBI investigation. Sankar Rao was awarded a ministry and Kakru a cabinet rank HRC Chairman. A two thousand page petition, with pin point proofs by Ms Vijayamma was tossed away by judge Rohini, who was appointed to HC by Chandra Babu. Sonia Gandhi is fine with all this, as it is natural justice award on her part to Chandra Babu, who colluded with her, with the help of Ambani brothers. Is this natural justice? None would concur. Sonia Gandhi flouted the democratic values in appointment of Rosayya as the CM in the wake of death of YSR – Narsimahan and the AP High Court were willing partners to this crime.
We, YSRCP would welcome a full and complete investigation on all the scams and corruption of the last twenty years, and not focus on one popular leader, that already passed away in a tragic helicopter accident on the way to serve people. Let everybody face music, not just Jagan. Let the CBI investigate quid pro quo cases of Ambanis investing thousands of crores in Eenadu for the favors they received from Chandra Babu.
Let the CBI investigate Chandra Babu’s land allocations to several of his cronies, especially IMG/Billy Rao. Let the CBI dig and discover the corruption of the last twenty years. Why did Congress party allow YSR to become the CM second time if YSR was so corrupt? Do they think people will approve of their JLCs and badmouthing of YSR? The great YSR, who lifted Congress Party to form governments in 2004 and 2009, both in State and at Center deserves better than what Sonia Gandhi is dishing out like a coward after his death. If she keeps the course, she sure will be made to regret, along with Chandra Babu, who colluded with Congress party in this attempt.
We, YSR Congress Party condemn the summoning of YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who stood against Sonia Gandhi and Congress party for his principled stand and leaving all the ministers, who signed all the GOs that CBI claims helped attract funds in to Sakshi. Also, we challenge all the political parties, including Congress and TDP to seek people’s verdict and not resort to cowardly acts of using governmental agencies to reach political goals. The alleged case involves money. Unless there is a trail that could be established, any such namesake confessions will not hold the test of law. Because everyone can allege, how could one establish what is truth.

The best way is to move to higher court to unfreeze the accounts. Courts usually respond favorbly because the money in the account is only alleged to have gotten in quid pro quo. Only when such charges are proved, the action of seizing assets makes sense.

హైదరాబాద్, న్యూస్‌లైన్: వై.ఎస్.జగన్‌మోహన్‌రెడ్డి కంపెనీల్లో పెట్టుబడులకు సంబంధించి దర్యాప్తు చేస్తున్న సీబీఐ… ఇప్పటికి మూడు చార్జిషీట్లు దాఖలు చేసింది. తొలి చార్జిషీట్లో అది చేసిన వాదనేంటంటే… హెటెరో, అరబిందో వంటి సంస్థలు వైఎస్ రాజశేఖరరెడ్డి ప్రభుత్వ హయాంలో భూముల కేటాయింపులు పొందాయని, వాటిని తక్కువ రేట్లకు కట్టబెట్టడం వల్ల వాటికి రూ.16 కోట్ల మేర లబ్ధి చేకూరిందని, అందుకు ప్రతిఫలంగా అవి రూ.30 కోట్లు ‘సాక్షి’లో పెట్టుబడులు పెట్టాయని.. అప్పుడే అంకెలు నేర్చుకునే చిన్నపిల్లాడు సైతం నవ్విపోయే వాదన ఇది. రూ.16 కోట్ల లబ్ధికి రూ.30 కోట్ల ప్రతిఫలమనేది ఊహల్లో కూడా సాధ్యం కాని సంగతి. కానీ సీబీఐ నిరూపించింది ఇదే.
రెండో చార్జిషీట్లో…
రెండో చార్జిషీటు చూస్తే మరీ చిత్రమైన వాదన. దీన్లో అది ఇన్వెస్టర్లకేదో అన్యాయం జరిగిపోతున్నట్లు వారి తరఫున వకాల్తా పుచ్చుకుంది. వై.ఎస్. జగన్‌మోహన్ రెడ్డి ప్రాతినిధ్యం వహిస్తున్న జగతి పబ్లికేషన్స్ సంస్థ బయటి వ్యక్తుల్ని ఆకర్షించి, కంపెనీల చట్టంలోని సెక్షన్ 3 (1)(సి)ని ఉల్లంఘించిందని, ప్రైవేటు లిమిటెడ్ కంపెనీ ఇలా పెట్టుబడుల్ని స్వీకరించటం సరికాదని పేర్కొంది. ఇది కంపెనీ ఏఓఏ(ఆర్టికల్స్ ఆఫ్ అసోసియేషన్)కు కూడా ఇది వ్యతిరేకమని తెలిపింది. పెపైచ్చు అన్‌లిస్టెడ్ కంపెనీలో ఇన్వెస్టర్లు పెట్టుబడి పెడితే.. లిస్టెడ్ కంపెనీల మాదిరిగా మార్కెట్లో ఎప్పుడు కావాలంటే అప్పుడు షేర్లు విక్రయించుకోలేరు కనక వారికి బయటపడే మార్గం (ఎగ్జిట్ రూట్) ఉండాలన్నది సీబీఐ వాదన.
పెపైచ్చు డెలాయిట్‌కు మౌఖికంగా కంపెనీ గురించి చెప్పి ఎక్కువ విలువ కట్టించుకున్నారని, దాని ఆధారంగా పెట్టుబడులు తెచ్చుకున్నారని, ఇది ఇన్వెస్టర్లను మోసం చేయటమేనని పేర్కొంది. ఒకవైపేమో రాజశేఖరరెడ్డి హయాంలో ప్రయోజనాలు పొందినందుకే వారు ‘సాక్షి’లో పెట్టుబడులు పెట్టారని వాదిస్తున్న సీబీఐ… మరోవంక ఇన్వెస్టర్లకు తప్పుడు సమాచారమివ్వటం ద్వారా వారిని మోసగించారని పేర్కొనటంలో ఔచిత్యమేంటన్నది ఎవ్వరికీ అర్థం కాదు. అసలు ఈ పరస్పర విరుద్ధ వాదనలు ఎక్కడ అతుకుతాయన్నది ఎంత బుర్ర బద్దలుగొట్టుకున్నా అవగతం కాదు కూడా.

వై.ఎస్.విజయమ్మ పిటిషన్ వేయటంతో.. దానిపై హైకోర్టు సీబీఐ విచారణకు ఆదేశించటంతో రామోజీ పెట్టుబడుల వ్యవహారాన్ని శోధించే అవకాశం కూడా సీబీఐకి వచ్చింది. దాదాపు నెల తరవాత చంద్రబాబు కుట్రలు, కుతంత్రాల ఫలితంగా ఆ విచారణ ఆగిపోవటం వేరే విషయం. అయితే దర్యాప్తు చేయటానికి దొరికిన నెలరోజుల్లో సీబీఐ ముందుకు కదిలే ప్రయత్నం ఎంతమాత్రం చేయలేదు. పోనీ విజయమ్మ దాఖలు చేసిన పిటిషన్‌ను చూసినా… రామోజీకి సంబంధించిన పూర్తి వ్యవహారం ఆధారాలతో సహా తెలిసి ఉండేది.
ఇక్కడ ‘సాక్షి’ విషయంలో సీబీఐ చేసిన వాదనను ‘ఈనాడు’కు వర్తింపజేస్తే… రామోజీకి చెందిన ఉషోదయా ఎంటర్‌ప్రైజెస్ ప్రైవేట్ లిమిటెడ్‌లో… బోలెడన్ని గొట్టం కంపెనీల ద్వారా రిలయన్స్ పెట్టుబడులు పెట్టింది. ఉషోదయ కూడా ప్రైవేట్ లిమిటెడ్ కంపెనీయే. ఒక ప్రైవేట్ లిమిటెడ్ కంపెనీలో ఇతర వ్యక్తులు పెట్టుబడి పెట్టడమే నేరమని వాదిస్తున్న సీబీఐ… గొట్టం కంపెనీలు పెట్టుబడి పెట్టడాన్ని ఎందుకు నేరమనుకోలేదు? ‘సాక్షి’ కొత్త సంస్థ. మూడు నాలుగేళ్లు గడిస్తే లాభాల్లోకి వస్తుందనే అంచనాలు ప్రమోటర్లకు ఉన్నాయి. కానీ రామోజీ సంస్థ 30 ఏళ్లుగా భారీ నష్టాల్ని మూటగట్టుకుంటూనే ఉంది.
మరి దాన్లో ఇన్వెస్టర్లు ఏం ఆశించి పెట్టుబడి పెట్టారు? ఇది సీబీఐకి నేరమనిపించలేదా? ‘సాక్షి’ షేరు రూ.350 ప్రీమియానికి అమ్మటమే నేరమైతే… రామోజీ ఒక్కో షేరును రూ.5,28,630కి విక్రయించటం ఘోరమనిపించలేదా? తనకున్న ఫిల్మ్ హక్కులు, పాత చెత్త సీరియళ్ల రీళ్లు తదితరాల్ని చూపించి… వాటినే అమూల్యమైన ఆస్తులుగా ఎర్నెస్ట్ అండ్ యంగ్ ద్వారా వాల్యుయేషన్ చేయించిన రామోజీ… వాటి ఆధారంగా రూ.2,600 కోట్ల పెట్టుబడులు గొట్టం కంపెనీల ద్వారా తెచ్చుకోవటం అక్రమమనిపించలేదా?
సీబీఐ జాయింట్ డెరైక్టరు లక్ష్మీనారాయణ నేతృత్వంలోని బృందం ఇలా రెండు రకాల దర్యాప్తులకు ఎందుకు మొగ్గు చూపుతోంది? అసలు దీన్ని దర్యాప్తు సంస్థ అనొచ్చా? దర్యాప్తు సంస్థ అంటే నిజానిజాల్ని నిష్పాక్షికంగా నిర్ధరించే సంస్థ కదా? అసలు హైకోర్టు ఆదేశించాక నెలరోజుల పాటు రామోజీపై దర్యాప్తు కోసం ఎందుకు ముందుకు కదల్లేదు? సాక్షి మాదిరిగా ‘ఈనాడు’ ఖాతాల్ని ఎందుకు సీజ్ చెయ్యలేదు? ఎక్కడ ఎవరు ఏ స్విచ్ నొక్కారు? ఇవన్నీ ప్రశ్నలే. సీబీఐ మాత్రమే జవాబు చెప్పగలిగే ప్రశ్నలివి.
‘మార్గదర్శి’ పేరుతో 2,500 కోట్లు వసూలు చేసినా..
హిందూ అవిభాజ్య కుటుంబం (హెచ్‌యూఎఫ్) పేరుతో రిజర్వు బ్యాంక్ నిబంధనలు తుంగలో తొక్కి మార్గదర్శి ఫైనాన్షియర్స్ పేరుతో ప్రజల నుంచి రూ.2500 కోట్లు వసూలు చేసిన రామోజీరావుపై ఈ రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం నామమాత్ర చర్యలు తీసుకోలేదు. అక్రమ వ్యాపారం చేసి డిపాజిట్‌దారులకు శఠగోపం పెట్టే ప్రయత్నం చేశారంటూ రాజమండ్రి కాంగ్రెస్ ఎంపీ ఉండవల్లి అరుణ్‌కుమార్ ఫిర్యాదుపై ప్రభుత్వం ఇప్పటిదాకా స్పందించలేదు. అక్రమంగా డిపాజిట్లను సేకరించినందున రూ.2500 కోట్లు జరిమానా చెల్లించాలంటూ ఆదాయపన్ను శాఖ జారీ చేసిన నోటీసులపై రామోజీరావు హైకోర్టు నుంచి స్టే తెచ్చుకుంటే కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం ఈనాటి వరకూ దానిని వెకేట్ చేసేందుకు ప్రయత్నం చేసిన పాపాన పోలేదు.
మూడవ చార్జిషీట్లోనూ అంతే…
తాజాగా సీబీఐ దాఖలు చేసిన మూడో చార్జిషీట్లోనూ అదే తీరు. విశాఖలోని పరవాడ ఫార్మా సెజ్‌లో… 2,100 ఎకరాలు కేటాయించిన చంద్రబాబు నాయుడిని పట్టించుకోనే లేదు. ఆ సెజ్‌లో గ్రీన్‌బెల్ట్‌ను తగ్గించడానికి వైఎస్ రాజశేఖరరెడ్డి ప్రభుత్వం అనుమతించటం వల్ల రాంకీ సంస్థకు 50 ఎకరాల మేర ప్రయోజనం చేకూరిందని… అందుకోసం అది జగతి సంస్థల్లో రూ.10 కోట్లు పెట్టుబడి పెట్టిందనేది సీబీఐ వాదన. మరి 50 ఎకరాలు కలిసి వచ్చినందుకు గనక రాంకీ సంస్థ జగన్ కంపెనీల్లో రూ.10 కోట్లు పెట్టుబడి పెట్టి ఉంటే… 2,100 ఎకరాలు కేటాయించినందుకు చంద్రబాబుకు ఏమిచ్చి ఉండాలి? ఇవన్నీ సీబీఐకి పట్టవా? వైఎస్‌ను టార్గెట్ చేయటమేనా దాని లక్ష్యం? ఇంకెన్నాళ్లు ఈ దిగజారుడుతనం?
