ఒకవైపు పారిశ్రామిక రంగం, మరోవైపు వ్యవసాయ రంగం విద్యుత్ కోతలతో సంక్షోభంలో కూరుకుపోతున్నా.. రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం నిమ్మకు నీరెత్తినట్లు వ్యవహరిస్తుండటంపై వైఎస్సార్ కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీ శుక్రవారం బంద్ నిర్వహిస్తోంది. నీరు లేక ఎండిపోతున్న పంటలను చూసి రైతులు ఆత్మహత్యలు చేసుకుంటున్నా సర్కారులో స్పందన కరువైందని ఆ పార్టీ ధ్వజమెత్తింది. విద్యుత్ కోతలు, పవర్ హాలిడేల కారణంగా పరిశ్రమలు దివాలా దశకు దిగజారుతున్నా.. లక్షలాది మంది కార్మికులు ఉపాధిలేక పస్తులుంటున్నా.. సర్కారులో చలనం లేకపోవటంపై వైఎస్సార్ కాంగ్రెస్ ఆగ్రహం వ్యక్తం చేస్తోంది. రాష్ట్రంలో నెలకొన్న తీవ్ర విద్యుత్ సంక్షోభంపై ప్రభుత్వం వ్యవహరిస్తున్న నిర్లక్ష్య వైఖరికి నిరసనగా ప్రజల్లో పెల్లుబుకుతున్న ఆందోళనకు మద్దతుగా శుక్రవారం బంద్‌కు పిలుపునిచ్చింది.
బంద్ జరపటానికి ముందు గత మూడు రోజులుగా వివిధ రూపాల్లో రాష్ట్ర వ్యాప్తంగా నిరసనలు, దీక్షలు చేపట్టింది. శుక్రవారం నాటి బంద్‌కు ప్రజల నుంచి పెద్ద ఎత్తున మద్దతు లభిస్తోందని పార్టీ నేతలు చెప్పారు. వైఎస్సార్ కాంగ్రెస్ తలపెట్టిన బంద్‌కు పలు కార్మిక సంఘాలు, పరిశ్రమల సమాఖ్యలు, రైతు సంఘాలు మద్దతు ప్రకటించాయి. రాష్ట్రంలో పలు చోట్ల కళాశాలలు, విద్యా సంస్థలు స్వచ్ఛందంగా సెలవు ప్రకటించాయి. ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ రాష్ట్ర రోడ్డు రవాణా సంస్థ (ఆర్‌టీసీ) కూడా ముందస్తు చర్యలు చేపట్టింది. బంద్‌ను పురస్కరించుకొని రాష్ట్ర వ్యాప్తంగా పోలీసులు కూడా బందోబస్తు ఏర్పాటు చేశారు.

వైఎస్సార్ కాంగ్రెస్ తలపెట్టిన రాష్ట్రవ్యాప్త బంద్ కారణంగా.. జేఎన్‌టీయూహెచ్ పరిధిలో శుక్రవారం జరగాల్సిన ఎంబీఏ, ఎంసీఏ, బీటెక్, బీఫార్మసీ పరీక్షలను వాయిదా వేశారు. ఎంబీఏ సెకండ్ సెమిస్టర్, ఎంసీఏ మూడో సెమిస్టర్ సప్లిమెంటరీ పరీక్షలు సెప్టెంబర్ 1న, బీటెక్, బీఫార్మసీ పరీక్షలు 4 న నిర్వహించనున్నట్లు డెరైక్టర్ ఆఫ్ ఎవాల్యుయేషన్ ప్రొఫెసర్ ఎ.గోవర్ధన్ తెలిపారు.

విద్యుత్ సంక్షోభంపై ప్రభుత్వం వ్యవహరిస్తున్న తీరుకు నిరసనగా వైఎస్సార్ కాంగ్రెస్ చేపట్టనున్న బంద్‌ను అప్రతిష్టపాలు చేసేందుకు కొన్ని శక్తులు కుట్రలు చేస్తున్నట్లు విశ్వసనీయవర్గాల ద్వారా సమాచారం అందిందని పార్టీ అధికార ప్రతినిధి వాసిరెడ్డి పద్మ పేర్కొన్నారు. రాష్ట్రవ్యాప్తంగా హింసను, విధ్వంసాన్ని ప్రేరేపించటానికి అసాంఘిక, రాజకీయ శక్తులు పథకం పన్నినట్లు సమాచారం ఉన్న నేపథ్యంలో కార్యకర్తలు, ప్రజలు శాంతియుతంగా, ప్రజాస్వామ్యబద్ధంగా మాత్రమే తీవ్ర నిరసన తెలపాలని ఆమె ఒక ప్రకటనలో కోరారు.

Shall we wait like this till 2014?
Hopefully, we will see some Congress MLAs and MIM withdrawing support to the government forcing midterm polls but it has been quite a while since the by election results and if it hasn’t happened on a large scale so far it may not happen until 2014. But we dont have to be idle while waiting. As our party is already doing, we should constantly fight on public issue. If Jagan gets released before then, he should immediately take up Telangana odarpu and also take up political agitations/deekshas in Telangana. If he doesnt get released until the end of 2013. Vijayamma should do these on his behalf. We should have enough time to do these before the election campaign starts in 2014.

Chandrababu Naidu has a problem. He does not like opinion, except his own. No wonder he is frothing at the mouth at the NDTV mid-term opinion poll that relegates his Telugu Desam to the `others’ category and gives it at best one Lok Sabha seat out of 42, if a general election were to be held today. The man who as chief minister would snub all and sundry by saying “you are thoroughly mistaken” is being told by a sample of voters that he is thoroughly mistaken about his own electoral prowess.
For those who did not follow the channel, it gave 21 out of 42 seats to Naidu’s bete noire Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s party, 10 to another of Naidu’s hate figure, K Chandrasekhar Rao’s TRS and 9 seats to principal rival the Congress. What’s worse, NDTV’s pollsters said Jagan is the overwhelming favorite to be the CM, in the Seemandhra region.

Naidu should know because since 2009, the TDP has not won a single byelection in any part of the state. And there have been many bypolls galore, thanks to the resignation happy Telangana and pro-Jagan MLAs. Naidu even chose to skip contesting bypolls in 2011, an admission of his inability to put up a fight. To give him credit, he ran a spirited campaign against Jagan’s alleged corruption in June this year, but failed to open his account. Which is why one wonders Chandrababu Naidu ko gussa kyon aata hai because this opinion poll only reflects what he already saw on the ground in June. Elementary, Mr Naidu.
This is not the first time Naidu is trying to shoot the messenger. In 2004, when NDTV (where I worked then) predicted his rout, giving him 90-105 assembly seats in a House of 294, he called “NDTV a plot” and stooped to a personal vilification tirade, that didn’t quite behove a person holding the office of the chief minister. In private conversations with his trusted aides then, I told them my personal prediction was 77 seats for the TDP. When the results were announced and the TDP could not even manage 50 seats, one of them told me tongue-in-cheek, “Even you guys got it wrong. Your channel said 90 seats and you said 77. We have got just 40-odd.”
In 2009, when we again predicted he will not return to power, he was upset but did not make it public. Once bitten twice shy. Though I must say, he was delighted with NDTV’s spot-on predictions in 1999 and in fact, gave me his first interview after the poll results, making state channel Doordarshan and his favorite ETV wait.
His party’s contention now is that NDTV has a tie-up with Jagan’s Sakshi TV and hence the poll results. How does Naidu then explain the 23-27 seats that a similar poll survey by India Today magazine gives to Jagan’s outfit?
Naidu is an intelligent person and a very able administrator but he needs to wake up and smell the coffee. He needs to listen to the right people, instead of his party colleagues who tell him only what he wants to hear. He should realise that he would have earned respect if he did not resort to flip-flops on different issues, be it agricultural policies, Telangana or free power. His brand of politics is too courtroom intrigue that it makes it difficult for people to trust him with their vote.
As a well-wisher, I can only advise Naidu to read the writing on the wall. Because many a times, the real message is in the graffiti.

With the recent survey by NDTV predicting that the Telugu Desam Party might end up winning just one Lok Sabha seat or none in the 2014 general elections, there was an interesting debate in the media circles as to which this seat could be.
This issue came up for discussion at a recent meeting at the Telugu Desam Party office. A senior journalist expressed surprise over the NDTV survey’s prediction that the TDP would get at the most one Lok Saba seat.
“This is unbelievable. How can the channel underestimate the TDP’s strength?” he asked.
However, a veteran TDP leader who had served as a minister in the NTR and Chandrababu Naidu cabinets in the past said there was nothing surprising in the predictions of the NDTV survey.
“Whether one believes it or not, the survey has reflected the factual position. In fact, I am unable to identify which MP seat the TDP would win in the next elections. Can anyone of you guess what it is?” the TDP leader asked.
For quite a long time, the media persons tried to guess the seat, but they could find none.
“May be, there is a remote possibility in Chittoor constituency,” a journalist guessed.
