In his second avatar as chief minister, Chandrababu Naidu has triggered a sense of dread among his ministers and bureaucrats with his style of functioning. The last two cabinet meetings lasted for about 10 hours each and, as the AP cabinet prepares to meet again on Friday , most ministers and officials are hoping that it will not end up as yet another marathon session.
“On the last two occasions, the cabinet meetings stretched from morning to night. But no important decision was announced and all we did was review various decisions and schemes with officials. We are of the view that the cabinet meetings should not last more than two to three hours unless the agenda is very important,“ said a minister who obviously did not want to be named.
What is making it worse for them is that, in contrast, the cabinet meetings in Telangana are not extending beyond two hours.
“The cabinet of today resembles a fish market with advisors, consultants, junior officials, OSDs and private secretaries also attending it. The cabinet meetings were meant to take decisions but now it has become a platform for discussion with every issue getting debated for hours together,“ said a minister.
