Visuals Of Damage On Basement Floor Of A Block Goes Viral

In spite of the government’s claims over safety of the interim government complex (IGC) under construction at Velagapudi, pictures showing sinking of the basement of one of the blocks are going viral on the social media.The visuals showed formation of a cavity beneath the basement structure and damage to its floor apparently caused by sinking of the structure.

The sinking of the structure is attributed to nature of the soil in the area. The activists opposing capital in Amaravati region have been arguing from the beginning that the area is not fit enough for heavy structures and that it might raise serious safety concerns. Even as incessant rain lashed the capital city region, a multi-storey private building under construction collapsed at Mandadam, just a stone’s throw from the secretariat work site a couple of days ago. This has given rise to apprehensions over the safety of IGC.
